SALT LAKE CITY
(ABC 4 News) - A man was found dead in a Salt Lake apartment complex and that
has other residents there worried. The killing is still unsolved. 21-year-old
Jonathan Mardoniz was found inside a unit at 1340 South 200 East.
According to family members this murder is truly a mystery. Mardoniz's brother
says he wasn't a bad kid, not into drugs, gangs, or other suspicious activities.
The neighbors ABC 4 talked to say they didn't hear anything until the police
cars showed up.
Police say Mardoniz was house-sitting for relatives at the
Salt Lake apartment complex when he was killed. Jose Alvaro Mardoniz, the
victim’s brother, says, “When my sister got home she found him on the
carpet and his body was already stiff.”
Officers processed the crime scene dusting the front door for prints, but
say there was no forced entry into the apartment. Police are not giving
details of Mardoniz's injuries or how he was killed, just that it wasn't
an accident. Neighbor Chris Hayes says, “I was woken up by the police
saying there was a homicide in the apartment below me.”
Neighbors say they were shocked to learn of the news, that they didn't
hear or see anything suspicious in apartment five over the weekend.
Neighbor Courtney Lester says, “That's what's most scary cause we didn't
hear anything... all of a sudden there's people out here and police and
reporters and stuff telling us what happened.”
The victim's brother says he can't think of anyone who would want to hurt
him. “He came from Mexico three years ago. He was a hard worker, honest,
he came to this country to progress, he never did any harm to anybody.” |
Housesitting
is a booming popular trend worldwide. Acquiring the services of a
housesitter decreases the risk of theft. By exchanging home care and
security for free accommodations, housesitters save on rent expenses
allowing them to build financial strength and accomplish their personal
goals.

Some of the residents are taking a pay cut for the day to be home with their
families in light of the murder. Hayes says, “My girlfriend was so scared that
she had me stay home from work today and I'm actually really thinking about
moving out of here pretty soon.”
Detectives have been working on this case since they got the call Sunday night.
No word on whether they are looking for any person in particular, or if they are
narrowing down a list of possible suspects
